About Us
My father came two or three years [earlier]. I only saw my father once when I was a small boy, then he came to this country (Singapore). I didn’t know him when I was born.
Only after I was told, I knew he was my fatehr. He was here for a long time as a laborer. When I was ten, my mother left me (died). I stayed in a place in india for one year and learned this job (goldsmithing). [But] it did not come properly.”
(The owner of Silva Segara Jewelers across Serangoon Road form Seenivasan’s work space, “is my peria appa mugan (“big father’s son’, father’s older brother’s son”). I learned again form this uncle. My father doesn’t know this occupation. Only this peria appa knows. I didn’t know my grandfather, but I think he would have done this occupation because they used to call him sinna appa ashari (Tamil, Small father goldsmith). My father worked in the fields. I didn’t became a farmer because I didn’t like. My elder [brother] studied this job before but he didn’t do it well.

Continuing a Legacy
Mdm Rajalakshmi shares stories of her father Mr Periyasamy Pathar, who ran successful diamond jewellery business in Segamat and Kulang, Malaysia in the 1930’s – 1940’s and her husband, Mr Seenivasa Pathar, who was a well sought-after jewellery craftsman in Little India, Singapore for several decades in the second half of 1900’s. She speaks fondly of the highly skilled craftsmen the two men were and the respect they received from their customers. With her grand-daughter Ranjinis taking up the business, she is proud that the lineage continues and D3 Diamonds offers high quality jewellery with integrity and bringing good luck to the customers.
